Zirbenbrand, Zirbendestillat or Zirbengeist is often referred to as Zirbinger in the local dialect and is a high-proof Swiss stone pine brandy.
It is characterized by its unique woody, mild taste and is often served as a digestif after a sumptuous meal.

The main ingredient in Swiss stone pine brandy is the ripe pine cones, also known as pine nuts. Ripe Swiss stone pine cones are painstakingly collected by hand to produce this specialtyfrom Austria. The cones are harvested between the end of June and mid-July.
It takes two summers for the cones to develop before they can be harvested. Only then are the farmers from Styria out and about in the high alpine terrain, laboriously climbing up the Swiss stone pine to pick the cones.
